Ms. Sundvall joined the firm in 1989 and has been a partner since 1996. She has a general civil litigation practice, with an emphasis in aviation-related litigation. As part of her general commercial litigation practice, she has handled a variety of matters, including business tort and breach of contract cases. For example, she defended a major pharmaceutical company in a case involving fraud and breach of contract claims in connection with the spin-off sale of a specialty chemicals business.
Ms. Sundvall's aviation litigation practice has included the representation of airline and manufacturing defendants in numerous personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits arising out of the following major airline accidents: United Airlines Flight 232 near Sioux City, Iowa, in 1989; American Eagle Flight 4184 near Roselawn, Indiana, in 1994; American Eagle Flight 3379 near Morrisville, North Carolina, in 1994; and American Airlines Flight 965 near Cali, Colombia, in 1995. She also provides counseling to a variety of clients with respect to tort liability exposure, insurance, contractual warranty and indemnity issues, and other matters related to aviation and tort law.
Ms. Sundvall attended the University of Michigan where she received her B.A. summa cum laude in 1985 and her Juris Doctor degree magna cum laude in 1988. She clerked for the Honorable Richard D. Cudahy in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 1988-89. She has been a speaker on the topic of "Defending the Future Loss of Income Claim" as part of the Illinois State Bar Association's Law Ed Series, and on various aviation-related topics at the 34th Annual SMU Air Law Symposium in 2000, the 5th Annual ABA Section of Litigation Aviation Seminar in 1999, and other aviation seminars. She co-authored an article entitled "The Status of Pending Air Carrier Litigation," which was published in the winter 2000 issue of the Journal of Air Law and Commerce , Vol. 66, No. 1, at p. 167. She is co-chair of the ABA Aviation Litigation Committee, and a member of the International Aviation Women's Association and the Chicago Bar Association's Judicial Evaluation Committee.
