Before law school, Kent served as the Director of Environmental Health for the Logan County (Illinois) Health Department from 1980 to 1982. A native of Lincoln, Illinois, Kent has spent his entire legal career with Heyl Royster, beginning in 1985 in the Springfield office. Kent moved to the Edwardsville office in 1988, and became a partner at the firm in 1993.
Kent concentrates his practice in the defense of asbestos and toxic tort claims arising from occupational and environmental exposures, including product liability and premises liability claims. During the past 16 years, Kent has defended and served as trial counsel for numerous clients such as product manufacturers, fiber suppliers, equipment manufacturers, contractors and premises owners. He has worked closely with various expert witnesses to prepare them for deposition and trial testimony.
In addition, Kent also practices in the areas of insurance coverage and general tort defense.
