Brown Hay & Stephens is the oldest law firm in the Illinois, with its founding in 1828 by Stuart's great-great grandfather, John Todd Stuart. From 1837 to 1841, the partnership included a young Abraham Lincoln and was known as Stuart and Lincoln. The firm has 17 partners and 27 lawyers.
