| Practice Description: Stephen C. Mudge, President of Reed, Armstrong, Gorman, Mudge & Morrissey, P.C., has been practicing trial law for more than 33 years. Mr. Mudge was born and raised in Madison County, and comes from a long line of attorneys who have practiced law for more than 100 years in Madison County.
Mr. Mudge obtained his under graduate education at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors in 1974. In 1977, he graduated from St. Louis University with a Juris Doctoris. He was appointed an Assistant State's Attorney in Madison County from 1977 to 1980. The last two years were spent in the felony division where he tried in excess of 25 felony jury trials to verdict with a conviction rate of over 95 percent. Prior to his leaving the State's Attorney's Office, he was appointed First Assistant, Chief Trial Attorney, Felony Division. From 1980 to present he has been associated with the law firm of Reed, Armstrong, Gorman, Mudge & Morrissey, P.C., where he became a partner in 1985.
In his years as an attorney at Reed, Armstrong he has had an extensive trial practice and has tried a wide variety of jury cases. He has tried all types of personal injury cases including wrongful death, massive brain injury, and other catastrophic personal injuries, resulting in no liability or low damage verdicts. In a recent case the amount in controversy exceeded $45 million dollars, and his last three cases involved demands of more than $1,000,000.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, including the sections on insurance, trial, tort law, and litigation. He is a member of the Illinois and Missouri State Bars, United States District Court in Central and Southern Illinois and Eastern Missouri, as well as the Madison County Bar Association, as a member and former officer. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, where he has served as a speaker and as a member of the Amicus Committee, and is an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates, a select group of trial attorneys. Mr. Mudge has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer for nearly 10 years, in personal injury defense and toxic tort. Leading Lawyers Magazine has also designated him in personal injury defense for several years.
Mr. Mudge's practice areas include negligence, insurance coverage law, bad faith claims, class actions, product liability, premises liability, commercial law, automobile, commercial trucking injuries, construction defects and injury, and employment law. He also serves as a mediator and arbitrator on a regular basis.
Mr. Mudge resides in Edwardsville, Illinois and is married to Brenda Ludwig and is the father of two children, John and Taylor.
He is a member of several community organizations, serving as chairman, and has and continues to serve, by appointment, on local government committees. He has also served on selection committees for the appointment of U.S. Magistrates.|
