Since 1978, Mr. Gaumer has concentrated his practice in the defense of workers' compensation claims. He has arbitrated hundreds of claims before arbitrators in central and southern Illinois, and he has settled thousands of claims. He has extensive experience in handling appeals to the Industrial Commission, Circuit, and Appellate Courts. Since 1992, he has also been the hearing officer for the Claims Committee of the State Universities Retirement System. He and his firm have an AV® "Preeminent" rating from Martindale-Hubbell (its highest rating).

After graduation from law school, Mr. Gaumer spent a year and a half as a law clerk for Justice James C. Craven of the Illinois Appellate Court, 4th District. Since 1978, he has been in private practice with the same firm in Decatur.
Member of the Early Birds Kiwanis Club of Decatur and is a former trustee of the Decatur Public Library Board.

Our three partners who handle Workers' Compensation claims have more than 70 years of experience in the defense of Workers' Compensation matters. We believe in aggressive yet cost effective representation of our clients. Since most workers' compensation claims are likely to be found compensable we believe in early and thorough investigation so as to identify those cases where legitimate liability disputes exist. We work towards prompt settlement in those cases where liability is clear. In cases where liability is doubtful we believe in vigorous defense unless the client prefers settlement and a favorable compromise settlement can be reached. Our goal is to work closely with the employer and insurance carrier or TPA so that through a joint effort the best and most cost-effective result can be reached in each claim.
