| Practice Description: |
Joseph J. O'Hara, Jr. is deputy leader of our firm's Product Liability Group. He primarily prepares and tries complex product liability and toxic tort cases all over the country. In fact, over the last 16 years, he has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the Midwest (Madison County, Illinois most frequently), and in California, New York, Washington D.C., and Maryland, exclusively in connection with his work in these areas.
The vast majority of Mr. O'Hara's work has been defending personal injury claims against former manufacturers of asbestos products. He has restricted his practice in this area to a small number of companies, and often has assumed regional and national responsibilities for these companies. He has also tried numerous asbestos cases, including several large consolidated cases in New York and Baltimore. In one ten-month trial involving 50 plaintiffs, Mr. O'Hara acted as one of the lead lawyers for dozens of defendants and third-party defendants regarding complex medical and causation issues.
In additional to asbestos litigation, Mr. O'Hara has also represented a manufacturer of gas grills in a large California consumer class action and a chemical manufacturer in a large Louisiana class action involving personal injury claims allegedly caused by a neighboring creosote plant. On occasion, he has also represented victims of catastrophic medical negligence, including victims of surgical and diagnostic errors.
