William P. Oberhardt is a Chicago attorney with over 30 years of trial and appellate experience in the federal and state courts in Chicago and throughout the United States. Mr. Oberhardt has handled a wide variety of intellectual property related cases, and is experienced in all aspects of litigation. He also regularly serves as local counsel in Chicago for various non-Chicago based patent firms.

Mr. Oberhardt is experienced in obtaining and protecting intellectual property for a diverse array of technologies, including printing press systems, aerospace components, medical equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic components, plastics, catalysts, muffler systems, pharmaceuticals, radar equipment, automotive equipment, aircraft brake systems, food manufacturing systems, sporting goods, toys, runway friction calculation technology, power tools, wire rope, marine equipment, and retail anti-theft and display systems. He represents companies that vary in size from the largest multinational companies to individual entrepreneurs.

Mr. Oberhardt counsels clients in the cost-effective acquisition, preservation, enforcement, and licensing of proprietary intellectual property rights. He also provides written opinions to clients concerning the enforceability or non-enforceability of proprietary rights prior to client involvement in entering new competitive arenas. He has developed industry-wide licensing programs using litigation and non-litigation strategies.

Parker-Hannifin Corp. v. Delta Power Co. (N. D. Ill. 2004)--trial counsel for a leading hydraulic component manufacturer suing for patent infringement, successfully obtaining a favorable settlement based on a suit for patent infringement

McNeil-PPC, Inc. v. Bayer Corp. (E.D. Pa. 2002)--trial counsel for a major pharmaceutical company suing for patent infringement, resulting in a seven figure jury verdict following a five week trial

Phillips Petroleum Co. v. Rexene Corp. (Fed. Cir. 1996 & D. Del. 1997)--trial counsel for a major petrochemical company suing for patent infringement, resulting in an eight figure damages award following trial

Loral Corp. v. The B.F. Goodrich Co. (S.D. Ohio 1989 & Fed. Cir. 1990)--trial counsel for a large aerospace manufacturing company, successfully defending against a patent infringement suit involving an eight figure claim for damages

Rockwell Graphic Systems, Inc. v. DEV Industries, Inc. (7th Cir. 1991)-- appellate counsel for a printing press manufacturing company, successfully obtaining an appellate court decision sustaining causes of action for trade secret misappropriation and RICO violations based on the theft of manufacturing drawings for printing press components
