Recognized as both a Leading Lawyer by Law Bulletin Publishing Company and a Super Lawyer® by Thomson Reuters, William F. Mahoney has a national trial practice focused on toxic tort and environmental cases. He defends clients at trials in Illinois, Texas, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, New York, Massachusetts, California, and Indiana and is the national trial counsel for defendants named in thousands of asbestos-related cases. Additionally, he has served as national coordinating counsel for several corporations in mass tort litigation. One of the founding members of Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney, his important legal work has helped the firm to grow exponentially from a tiny Chicago office to nearly 150 attorneys in seven cities.

Mr. Mahoney has been retained as counsel for defendants in state and federal class-action proceedings and has litigated successfully for the dismissal of class-action lawsuits involving cellular telephones (brain cancer) and radar guns (leukemia). He has substantial experience in electromagnetic field, chemical exposure, mold, benzene, mercury, and welding rod litigation.

Within the context of his toxic tort practice, Mr. Mahoney has developed special expertise in epidemiology, medical causation, toxicology, industrial hygiene, risk assessment, and biostatistics. He has been actively involved in constitutional challenges to tort reform statutes, arguing in defense of caps on non-economic and punitive damages, the repeal of joint and several liability and legislative changes affecting the product liability statutes of repose. Mr. Mahoney also has considerable experience defending general product liability, professional liability, construction, and insurance coverage matters.

Having served in a leadership position for Segal McCambridge in all 25 years of its existence, Mr. Mahoney has served as co-chair of the firm for the past seven.

In addition to his leadership role at the firm, Mr. Mahoney is active personally and professionally in his community, serving in a leadership role for both the Chicago Legal Clinic and the Chicago chapter of Human Rights Watch.
