Practice Description:  
Mr. Casazza represents a wide variety of businesses and public sector clients in labor and employment law matters, including NLRB matters, collective bargaining, employment discrimination, employment-at-will and labor arbitration. He also serves as an arbitrator and a mediator. He is a seasoned negotiator who has successfully handled negotiations for bargaining units as large as 8,500 employees. He is vice chair of Vedder Price's Executive Committee.


Notable Cases and Results:  
  • National Union of Hospital & Health Care Employees, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees v. County of Cook, 692 N.E.2d 1253, 1-96-2690 (Ill. App. Ct. 1998). The court and State Labor Board held that attending physicians at Cook County Hospital are statutory supervisors and so may not organize for purposes of collective bargaining under the Illinois Public Labor Relations Act.

  • Speedrack, Inc. and UAW, 293 NLRB No. 128 (1989). The employer unilaterally implemented a wage decrease of approximately 47%. The Board ruled that the employer had bargained in good faith to impasse, and that an employer normally can unilaterally implement a wage reduction after bargaining to impasse pursuant to a mid-contract wage reopener.
